Job Description
We’re building a custom single-board computer (SBC)-based affordable personal computer with a housed form factor, and we’re looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to design the enclosure and thermal solution. This role is ideal for someone who loves integrating electronics into compact, well-designed products.
You will own the design of the outer housing, internal mounts, and thermal management strategy (heatsink/fan/venting), all tailored around our PCB layout and I/O configuration.
Responsibilities:
- Design 3D CAD models of the PC enclosure, optimized for manufacturing (3D printing, CNC, or injection molding)
- Design and simulate a basic passive or active cooling system with cost in mind
- Ensure alignment and fit for HDMI, USB, power ports, and display connectors
- Recommend materials and manufacturing methods with cost in mind
- Collaborate with electronics engineer to ensure mechanical-electrical compatibility
- Deliver manufacturable CAD + BOM + optional thermal simulations
Requirements:
- 3+ years experience in Mechanical Engineering Design
- Experience designing electronic enclosures
- Skilled in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)
- Knowledge of thermal design: heat sinks, airflow, materials
- Familiarity with prototyping methods (3D printing, laser cutting, CNC)
- Strong attention to detail and mechanical tolerance fit
Bonus Points:
- Experience with Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi, or similar SBCs
- Portfolio showing consumer hardware or electronics enclosures
- Comfort with rapid prototyping and iteration
- Understanding of EMI shielding or grounding design
