Overview

Relevant Research is a mission-driven, fully remote research consulting firm that provides data science, fundraising support, and web development support to academics and non-profit organizations. We are seeking a Knowledge Management Specialist (contractor, up to 40 hours/week).

Founded in 2024, Relevant Research bridges the gap between research needs and technical solutions for academic and nonprofit clients. We specialize in web development, data consulting, and nonprofit fundraising, with a strong focus on migration-related projects.


Our collaborative team is based across the United States, Australia, and Nepal and includes co-founders Austin, Riwaj, and Adam, along with a growing international team. Our clients are primarily university researchers and nonprofits working at the intersection of data and social impact, particularly around migration, policy, and fundraising.


About the Position

We are seeking a Knowledge Management Specialist to conduct targeted research and analysis, monitor policy developments, and build structured knowledge systems for academic and nonprofit clients.

This role currently emphasizes U.S. law and policy, nonprofit fundraising, and environmental policy, but may evolve depending on client needs.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A skilled researcher with strong analytical and synthesis skills

  • Proficient in using AI tools critically and responsibly
  • Comfortable working independently in a collaborative, remote environment

Support Relevant Research's mission by:

  • Conducting targeted research
  • Monitoring policy and legal developments
  • Building organized knowledge systems across key focus areas, including U.S. immigration policy, nonprofit and philanthropy sectors, and environmental policy


Key Responsibilities


1. Conduct and Synthesize Research

  • Identify, gather, and analyze information from government databases, policy documents, academic publications, reputable news sources, and open-source intelligence.
  • Use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) responsibly to enhance research depth and efficiency.
  • Synthesize findings into clear, concise research briefs tailored to client and internal needs.


2. Monitor Policy, Legal, and Sector Developments

  • Track changes in immigration policy, nonprofit sector trends, and environmental policy.
  • Maintain watch lists of key individuals, organizations, and legislative developments.


3. Build, Organize, and Manage Knowledge Systems

  • Develop and maintain structured databases, citation libraries, and document repositories.
  • Ensure outputs are stored, searchable, and accessible for team members and clients.


4. Translate Research into Actionable Outputs

  • Create reports, summaries, presentations, and visualizations that support decision-making.
  • Adapt outputs for audiences ranging from academic researchers to nonprofit boards.


5. Collaborate and Communicate

  • Work with team members to define research questions and project needs.
  • Share findings proactively using collaboration tools such as Slack, Google Docs, Miro, and Markdown.


Required Qualifications

  • Proven research experience with diverse sources (government databases, academic publications, reputable news, OSINT).
  • Proficiency with AI tools for research, with the ability to critically assess AI outputs.
  • Strong writing and editing skills for producing concise, accurate briefs and reports.
  • Excellent attention to detail and information quality assurance.
  • Experience in policy-relevant research (immigration, nonprofits, philanthropy, or environmental policy preferred).
  • Strong organizational skills in building and managing knowledge systems and citation libraries.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects on deadlines.
  • Familiarity with collaboration and productivity tools (Slack, Google Docs, Miro, Markdown, Excel or equivalent).
  • Basic design sense for accessible, visually clear outputs.
  • Proactive communication in English (required for clients and team).


Work Schedule & Environment

  • 40 hours per week preferred.
  • Fixed schedule: 6:00 am – 12:00 pm Eastern US time (3:45 pm – 9:45 pm Nepal time), Monday to Friday.
  • Additional hours flexible based on your schedule.
  • Daily check-in meetings at the start of the workday.
  • Tools: Slack (communication), Google Drive (knowledge management), Zoom (meetings), evolving suite of technologies.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Monthly compensation: 50,000 NPR.
  • Probation period: 3 months (for performance and fit assessment).
  • Leave structure:
  • Annual Leave: 1 hour per 10 hours worked (up to 26 days per year).
  • Personal Leave: 0.5 hours per 10 hours worked (up to 13 days per year).
