Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled Senior CloudOps Engineer (specializing in FinOps Analysis) to play a key role in managing and optimizing cloud financial operations for our clients. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing cloud usage, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring financial accountability in cloud spend. This requires expertise in cloud cost management, billing structures, and financial governance. You will work closely with engineering, finance, and business teams to implement best practices in cloud financial management and ensure cost efficiency.
Job Description:
As a Sr CloudOps Engineer, you will be responsible for defining cloud cost models, guiding teams on optimizing cloud expenditures, and ensuring financial transparency. Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring and analyzing cloud usage and expenditures to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Developing and maintaining cloud financial dashboards and reports to provide visibility into cloud costs.
- Implementing cloud cost allocation strategies to ensure accurate chargeback and showback.
- Collaborating with engineering teams to implement best practices for cloud resource optimization.
- Implementing tagging strategies for cost allocation and governance.
- Ensuring compliance with company financial policies and cloud cost governance frameworks.
- Partnering with finance teams to support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for cloud spend.
- Researching and staying up to date with cloud pricing models, discounts, and cost optimization techniques.
- Troubleshooting billing discrepancies and working with cloud providers to resolve issues.
- Educating and advocating for FinOps best practices across teams to improve cloud cost efficiency.
- Influencing business decisions with effective verbal and written communication, data driven analysis and presentation of alternatives.
Job Specification:
Required Skills and Expertise:
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in FinOps, cloud financial management, or cloud cost optimization.
- Cloud Platforms: Strong understanding of AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud pricing models, billing, and cost structures, with proven expertise in managing various cloud vendor costs.
- Data Analysis:
- Proficiency in analyzing large datasets related to cloud cost and usage using Excel, SQL, or BI tools.
- Strong Excel skills for data analysis and querying.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Experience with cloud cost forecasting, budgeting, and financial modeling.
- Cost Optimization: Knowledge of cloud cost optimization techniques such as reserved instances, savings plans, and right-sizing.
- Financial Operations: Experience with Accounts Receivable (AR) or Accounts Payable (AP), including invoice reconciliation, vendor payments, and financial reporting.
- Collaboration: Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, finance, and business teams to drive cost efficiency.
- Reporting & Visualization: Experience with cloud cost management tools (AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, Google Cloud Billing, or third-party tools like CloudHealth or Cloudability).
- Communication: Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Skills:
- FinOps Certified Practitioner certification or FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification (FOCUS) certification is a plus.
- Experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.) for automation of cost analysis.
